The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of escalating economic hardship across the country, asserting that federal economic policies have placed a heavy burden on ordinary Nigerians.

According to a report by Vanguard News, the assessment was shared on Sunday via an official Facebook post by Sabo Muhammad Nakudu, the party’s governorship candidate in Jigawa State.

Criticism of Economic Reforms

Nakudu asserted that the policy directions implemented by the Tinubu-led administration since May 29, 2023, have steadily deteriorated living conditions for citizens nationwide. He placed the blame on the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that Nigerians deserve better governance and calling for urgent, sustained interventions to alleviate prevailing economic strains.

Particular concern was raised over the removal of the petrol subsidy, which the Federal Government instituted at the inception of the administration on May 29, 2023. Nakudu stated that the reform has subjected average Nigerians to continuous financial strain.

Temporary Fuel Price Relief Labeled ‘Deceptive’

Addressing recent federal measures, the ADC candidate characterized the administration’s announced one-month reduction in fuel prices as deceptive. Nakudu argued that the temporary relief does not resolve the broader cost-of-living crisis facing households and urged members of the public not to treat the intervention as a permanent solution.

Nakudu linked the temporary reduction to political pressure, specifically referencing a proposal by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to reinstate the fuel subsidy if elected president in 2027. He alleged that the short-term price drop was intended to mislead the public rather than deliver structural relief.

Party Pledges Alternative Direction

Nakudu stated that the core objective of the ADC remains rescuing ordinary citizens from the ongoing economic hardships and security challenges that he said have marked the tenure of the APC-led Federal Government.
