According to reports by the Daily Express, tennis player Alexander Bublik experienced a chaotic meltdown during the third round of the Shanghai Masters, destroying his racket and injuring his hand before staging a dramatic comeback victory against Brandon Nakashima.

Competing as the No. 19 seed against 16th seed Nakashima, Bublik held two set points at 6-4 during a tightly contested opening-set tiebreak. However, he failed to convert the opportunities and dropped five of the next six points, losing the hour-long set 7-6(7).

Outburst Leads to Injury and Code Violation

Frustrated after Nakashima ripped a winner to claim the set, Bublik slammed his racket to the ground five times until it was completely destroyed. He then headed to his bench, kicked it, and struck the top of a drinks cooler with his hand, cutting it open and causing it to bleed.

Commentator Nick Lester remarked on the incident, stating, “He’s going to need to find a way to calm down quickly. That’s not pretty.”

Chair umpire John Blom issued a code violation warning for unsportsmanlike conduct. Bublik covered his bleeding hand with a towel and informed the umpire he required a physiotherapist. While a trainer bandaged his hand during a three-minute medical timeout, Bublik vented his frustrations, complaining about the high level of his opponents in recent weeks.

Resilient Comeback Victory

Despite the self-inflicted injury and emotional outburst, Bublik regained his composure. He held serve at the start of the second set, secured the first break of the match in the eighth game, and closed out the set 6-3.

The Kazakh player completed his redemption in a final-set tiebreak, converting his second match point to seal a 6-7(7), 6-3, 7-6(5) comeback victory. Bublik and Nakashima are previously acquainted, having recently represented Team World together in doubles at the Laver Cup.
