The Dallas Cowboys have made adjustments to their roster as their offensive line gets healthy, parting ways with 7-year NFL veteran and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers starter Nick Leverett. According to single-source reporting by Heavy.com, the move was announced on Monday.
NFL reporter Aaron Wilson first broke the news on social media, writing on his official X account that the Cowboys had waived the 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman. Leverett had appeared in all five games for the Cowboys to start the season, as the team opened the year with a 2-3 record.
Roster Reshuffling Following Tyler Smith’s Injury
Leverett originally joined the Cowboys prior to the start of the regular season after Pro Bowl guard Tyler Smith was placed on injured reserve due to thumb surgery. Smith was initially projected to miss four to six weeks following his procedure on September 6, prompting Dallas to sign Leverett to the active roster from the practice squad.
With Smith now healthy and cleared to play—following a full practice ahead of a matchup against the Buccaneers—the Cowboys made the corresponding roster move to waive Leverett. Throughout his career, Leverett has spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots, Arizona Cardinals, and Dallas Cowboys, for whom he also played one regular-season game in 2025.
