White Addresses Commentary Allegations
UFC President Dana White has publicly addressed the growing tension between superstar fighter Alex Pereira and longtime commentator Daniel Cormier. The dispute stems from accusations made by Pereira, who suggested that Cormier has been actively pushing a narrative to favor a heavyweight title bout between Ciryl Gane and Josh Hokit, rather than advocating for a rematch for Pereira.
Speaking to the media following the tenth episode of DWCS Season 10, White firmly rejected the notion that the UFC dictates what its broadcast team says on air. “Of course that’s not true. These guys are the most paranoid people on the planet. I’ve never told DC to do anything, ever,” White stated. He emphasized that the organization does not police the commentary team, noting that if they did, fighters like Sean Strickland would not have remained with the promotion for as long as they have.
Cormier’s Stance and Future Implications
For his part, Daniel Cormier has denied any personal bias against Pereira. While Cormier has expressed his belief that other contenders, such as Josh Hokit or Alexander Volkov, may be deserving of a title shot against Gane, he maintains that he is a fan of the fighter known as “Poatan” and has no intention of casting him in a negative light.
According to reporting by Yahoo Sports, the path forward for Pereira remains clear despite the friction. The fighter is currently scheduled to face Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 335. A victory in that matchup would provide a strong case for Pereira to challenge for the heavyweight title, keeping his ambitions alive to become the first fighter in UFC history to secure championship belts in three different weight classes.
