OGUN STATE — Gunmen have abducted a farm owner identified as Oreoluwa Osonuga in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State and are reportedly demanding ₦500 million for his release.
Osonuga was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday afternoon while driving out to purchase fuel and deliver poultry products.
According to sources, the armed men intercepted his vehicle and took him away, leaving behind his 2017 Toyota Highlander SUV, which was later recovered by the Divisional Police Officer in Ikenne.
The kidnappers are said to have contacted Osonuga’s family using his phone and demanded the ₦500 million ransom.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, confirmed the incident and said security operatives had commenced efforts to locate the victim and rescue him safely.
The police commissioner also assured the family that all necessary measures were being taken to track down the abductors.
Osonuga is reportedly the son of Dr. Osonuga Bunmi, of the Department of Physiology at Olabisi Onabanjo University, and Mrs. Osonuga Tiwalade, a senior teacher in Ayepe, Ijebu.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the security of farmers, business owners and residents in parts of Ogun State and the wider South-West.
Security agencies are continuing efforts to locate the abducted farm owner and apprehend those responsible.
