Residents of the Magodo Phase II estate have made a passionate appeal to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, urging him to take immediate action to halt developers from encroaching upon a protected wetland area in the community.
According to single-source reporting by Punch Newspapers, the community members raised the alarm over ongoing activities by developers within the ecological zone. The concerned residents emphasized that allowing construction and human activity to continue unchecked in the wetland poses significant dangers to the neighborhood.
Concerns Over Flooding and Community Security
The primary motivations behind the residents’ urgent call to the state government center on environmental and safety hazards. Specifically, the community cited heightened risks of severe flooding if the natural water absorption capacity of the wetland is compromised by unauthorized development.
In addition to environmental concerns, the residents pointed to growing security vulnerabilities linked to the encroachment. Unregulated access and construction activities in the area threaten the safety perimeter of the established neighborhood, prompting calls for swift intervention from the Lagos State Government under Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
