Eberl Offers Support for Diaz

Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl has publicly defended Luis Diaz as the Colombian winger navigates a challenging period in front of goal. The 29-year-old has failed to score or provide an assist in his last six competitive appearances for the Bundesliga side, sparking discussions regarding his current form.

Speaking to Bild ahead of Bayern’s Champions League fixture against Viking FK, Eberl dismissed concerns about the forward’s lack of output. “He’ll come good again. You can see his movement; he’s involved in the game and keeps making things happen. I think he is definitely on an upward trajectory,” Eberl stated.

Recent Frustrations

The winger’s recent struggles were highlighted during Bayern’s 2-2 draw against Augsburg on Saturday. Diaz appeared to have ended his scoring drought, but the goal was disallowed following a VAR review that identified an offside position by Josip Stanisic in the build-up. Eberl noted that the club would have been pleased to see the goal stand, as it would have provided a significant confidence boost for the player.

A Contrast to Previous Success

The current dry spell marks a notable shift from Diaz’s debut campaign in Bavaria, where he recorded 26 goals and 23 assists in 51 appearances. This season, the winger has found the net only once, during a 5-1 opening-day victory over Stuttgart. Despite his individual difficulties, Bayern Munich has maintained a strong start to the season, currently sitting third in the Bundesliga and having secured a 5-0 win in their Champions League opener against Bodo/Glimt.
