Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo is eyeing a big role in the Amakhosi team under new head coach Fernando Da Cruz in the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.

Ngcobo is aiming for a strong resurgence and a regular spot in the Kaizer Chiefs starting XI after an injury-plagued campaign restricted his influence.

The highly-rated attacking midfielder struggled for consistency during a difficult 2025/26 season, where recurring fitness setbacks hampered his chances under then-co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze. Despite those challenges, he managed 21 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with a single goal.

At 26, the left-footed playmaker stands as one of the longest-serving members in the Amakhosi dressing room, having risen through the club’s youth academy to make his senior debut back in 2017.

To date, Ngcobo has amassed 127 appearances for the Soweto giants, contributing eight goals and three assists. While his undeniable talent has produced flashes of brilliance over the years, he is yet to consistently deliver on his immense potential.

Now, with a new technical team steering the ship at Naturena, Ngcobo is determined to hit the ground running in the upcoming season as the Glamour Boys push to restore their glory days.

Ngcobo revealed that in the new season, he wants to put all his energy into the games and perform at the highest level. “I am feeling good and looking forward to the new season,” he told the Chiefs media team.

“My aim is always to try harder, do the right things and put all of my energy into the game, so I am eager to perform at my highest level this season.”

Ngcobo further reflected on Chiefs’ pre-season camp in Spain, stating that it gave him the necessary test to be ready for the new campaign.

Chiefs concluded a 10-day pre-season camp in the coastal city of Alicante, Spain, as they ramp up preparations for the upcoming campaign.

Base-camped at the Pinatar Arena Football Centre, Amakhosi tested themselves against top international opposition, recording back-to-back 1-1 draws against Scottish giants Rangers FC and Saudi Pro League side Al Kholood. The Glamour Boys wrapped up their Spanish tour with a narrow 2-1 defeat to La Liga outfit Elche CF.

“The training camp went very well. Personally, I found it to be quite testing, a good challenge. I fought to become a better player, a better person. Also, as a team, it was a great experience. We all got a lot out of the camp, which we will take into the new campaign.”
