Sokoto State Honours Military Sacrifices With Financial Support and Foodstuff
According to reports by Daily Trust, the Sokoto State Government has extended financial assistance and food supplies totalling N38.25 million to the families of 24 fallen soldiers and 57 injured military personnel.
The relief package was presented on behalf of the state administration by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Bello Sifawa. Speaking during the presentation, Sifawa emphasised that the sacrifices made by military personnel in protecting lives, preserving peace, and safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity deserve profound recognition and appreciation.
The SSG reiterated the government’s steadfast solidarity with the armed forces, noting that the initiative demonstrates a commitment to backing personnel who risk their safety in the line of duty, alongside the families of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Breakdown of the Relief Package
Under the distribution arrangement detailed in the single-source report:
- Each family of the 24 deceased soldiers received a cash sum of N1 million.
- Each of the 57 injured personnel received N250,000.

Barrister Sifawa was accompanied during the visit by the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security Matters, retired Col. Ahmed Usman, alongside other state government officials.
Military Expresses Gratitude
Receiving the donations on behalf of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8 Division, the Garrison Commander, Brig.-Gen. I.O. Amah, welcomed the intervention as a comforting and heartwarming gesture.
While acknowledging that no material gift can replace a human life, Brig.-Gen. Amah noted that the gesture of reciprocity provides genuine consolation to the armed forces. He commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for prioritizing military welfare despite competing governance demands and ongoing security challenges in Sokoto State.
The Garrison Commander further offered prayers for the leadership of the state and expressed confidence that continued backing will encourage troops and reinforce efforts to overcome criminal elements threatening regional security.
