According to reports by Vanguard News, President Bola Tinubu has challenged individuals seeking to lead Nigeria to explain the cost of their campaign promises, detail how they intend to implement them, and prove whether they can sustain them financially.

In a statement posted on his official X platform on Sunday, the President emphasized that every government commitment must be supported by a credible plan and financial sustainability. He warned that failing to do so would unfairly pass the financial burden onto ordinary Nigerians and future generations.

Balancing Relief and Future Responsibility

Reflecting on his administration’s approach, President Tinubu stressed the delicate balance between delivering immediate relief and protecting the long-term future of the nation.

“As President, I have a duty to provide relief today without compromising our children’s future,” Tinubu stated. “Every commitment must be sustainable and backed by a credible plan. That responsibility guides our decisions, including the difficult ones.”

He further noted that political pledges are often easy to make when the financial costs can be deferred, ultimately forcing citizens and descendants to pay the bill.

Focus on Citizen Impact and Public Services

During his remarks, President Tinubu referenced the personal stories of several Nigerians—namely Blessing, Ada, Abigail, and Kabir—asserting that their experiences illustrate the tangible impact that government investments have on everyday lives.

The President also acknowledged a public request from an individual named Emmanuel, stating it served as a reminder of the extensive work still required to broaden access to essential public services. He underscored the administration’s commitment to expanding affordable transportation across the country through active collaboration with state governments.

“Our responsibility is to keep expanding access until affordable transportation becomes a reality for more communities across our country,” Tinubu said. “That is the work we will continue in collaboration with the States.”
