Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday that Russian forces carried out attacks against Ukrainian energy facilities shortly after United States President Donald Trump publicly claimed an “energy ceasefire” had been established between Moscow and Kyiv.
Strikes Reported in Kyiv and Kharkiv
According to reports published by Vanguard News, President Zelensky stated in a social media update that Russian forces deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle against critical infrastructure in the capital. “The Russians struck a power plant in Kyiv with a ‘shahed’ drone,” Zelensky stated, noting that additional attacks on energy facilities subsequently occurred across the Kharkiv region.
Emphasizing the timeline of the military action, Zelensky wrote, “And all of this happened AFTER the President of the United States made his statement about an energy ceasefire.”
Contradicting Claims on Infrastructure Truce
Earlier on Sunday, President Trump stated that Ukraine and Russia had reached an agreement to suspend strikes on each other’s energy infrastructure. However, Zelensky quickly disputed the existence of such a pact, stating that the announcement was news to him.
As of Sunday, the Russian government in Moscow had issued no official response or comment regarding President Trump’s ceasefire remarks or President Zelensky’s subsequent statements regarding the power grid strikes.
