ILE-IFE, Osun State – The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Toyota Hilux to support the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security outfit established by Yoruba Nation advocate, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The donation was announced during a courtesy visit by Sunday Igboho and members of the security network to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.
Speaking during the visit, the monarch described the establishment of the Iru Ekun Security Network as a timely initiative aimed at complementing existing security efforts to protect lives and property across Yorubaland.
The Ooni commended Sunday Igboho for his commitment to the security and welfare of the Yoruba people, stating that true leadership is demonstrated through selfless service and meaningful contributions to society.
He emphasized that security remains the foundation for peace, unity, and sustainable development, adding that initiatives focused on safeguarding communities deserve support and encouragement.
Oba Ogunwusi also called on traditional rulers, business leaders, professionals, and other Yoruba stakeholders at home and in the diaspora to support the security outfit, stressing that collective efforts are needed to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
In his response, Sunday Igboho expressed appreciation to the Ooni for the financial support and royal endorsement, describing the monarch as a unifying father figure for the Yoruba people.
He also disclosed plans to convene a regional security summit involving traditional rulers from across Yorubaland. According to him, the proposed summit is expected to be held at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife and will focus on practical solutions to the security challenges facing the region.
Igboho reaffirmed that the Iru Ekun Security Network would continue to operate within the provisions of the law while collaborating with security agencies and local communities to strengthen intelligence gathering, community policing, and regional security.
