The Benue State Commissioner for Cooperatives and Rural Development, Hon. Dr. Yanmar Ortese, has commended the contractor handling the rural electrification project in Vandeikya Local Government Area, expressing satisfaction with the progress and quality of work recorded so far.
Dr. Ortese made the remarks during an on-the-spot inspection of the project, accompanied by management staff and engineers from the ministry.
The inspection was carried out to assess the level of completion and verify the materials procured for the project.
Commissioner Satisfied With Project Progress
During the inspection, Dr. Ortese expressed satisfaction with the quality and quantity of materials available at the various project sites.
He assured residents of the benefiting communities that the Benue State Government remains committed to completing the project and ensuring that electricity is provided to the communities within the shortest possible time.
The Commissioner also urged residents to continue supporting the administration of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, stressing that the government remains committed to delivering development projects and the dividends of democracy to communities across the state.
He appealed to the benefiting communities to take ownership of the infrastructure once completed and ensure that the facilities are adequately protected.
According to him, the sustainability of public infrastructure depends significantly on the cooperation and sense of responsibility of the communities benefiting from such projects.
Project Now 86% Complete
Speaking during the inspection, the Director of Rural Roads and Electrification, Engr. Terkula Wuam, said the project was being implemented according to the approved design and specifications.
He, however, urged the contractor to increase the pace of work and ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
The representative of the contractor, Sinai Innovation Nigeria Ltd., Engr. Orvesen Zasha, disclosed that the project had reached approximately 86 per cent completion.
He explained that with adequate remobilisation to the project site, the contractor would be able to complete and hand over the project to the state government for commissioning within 30 days.
Youths Pledge Support
Also speaking during the inspection, the Youth Chairman of the benefiting area, Mr. Terkula Gum, expressed appreciation to Governor Alia for extending rural electrification to communities in Vandeikya.
He assured the government that youths in the benefiting communities would continue to support the project and assist in protecting the infrastructure against vandalism and other forms of damage.
12 Substations Across Vandeikya Communities
The rural electrification project comprises 12 substations spread across communities in Vandeikya Local Government Area.
The benefiting communities include:
- Ihwa
- Ayev
- Bako
- Abaki
- Tse-Alia
- Alakali
- Imande
- Ngeher Mbausu
- Ikyum
- Ivenge
- Kpamber
- Anhyura
The completion of the project is expected to improve electricity access for residents and support economic activities across the benefiting communities.
Dr. Ortese was accompanied during the inspection by the Director of Rural Roads and Electrification, Engr. Terkula Wuam; the Ministry’s Resident Engineer, Engr. Alexis; and other engineers from the ministry.
If completed and commissioned as projected, the project will represent another step towards expanding rural electricity infrastructure and improving access to basic services in communities across Vandeikya.
